Get To Know Us

River Rose Flowers

a Woman-Owned Family Farm tended by Jennifer & Caroline, a Mother and Daughter-in-Law team passionate for plants. Of course we couldn’t do it without our support team- Joe & Sherman plow, till, and cultivate the soil and Adalynn is our little helper! Our small scale farm is planted on bottom land along the New River, farmed by our family for multiple generations in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina. All of our seeds are collected, sifted, winnowed, and packaged by hand using primitive techniques. Each seed variety is heirloom or true to seed, as it is ideal for seed conservation and can be handed down through generations. All of our bulbs, corms, and tubers are carefully divided, inspected, and treated for storage by hand using traditional practices. All of our plants are individually cultivated by hand with attention to any deficiencies or diseases. Jennifer’s specialty is Horticulture in Soil Sciences and she meticulously manages our plant health regimes and pest prevention. When possible, we prefer to use organic methods, but are not solely organic as certain pest/disease pressures are higher than others. Our selection is purposefully curated for flower farmer-florists, with each variety hand-picked for its use in floral design and garden production. Caroline’s specialty is in Interior Design, which flows naturally into Floral Design, and she selects the plants with an eye for design and maximum production in mind. She is also implementing new dahlia and zinnia breeds exclusive to River Rose (look for our “RR” varieties). We are passionate about plants and nature, as God has given it to us. Gardening has brought joy to us during periods of desperation in our lives, and we pray our efforts will help bring happiness to others, as it has to us.

“As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children's children, to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments.” Psalm 103:15-18
